The Art of Creating and Maintaining Sacred Space in your Home
Lovingly
facilitated by
Reverend Sharon
“How
might your life have been different, if, as a young woman, there had been a
place for you, a place where you could go to be with women? A place where you
could be received as you strove to order your moments and your days.
A
Place where you could learn a quiet centeredness…….to help you ground
yourself in daily patterns that would nurture you through their gentle
rhythms…..a place where, in the stillness at the ending of a task, you could
feel an ancient presence flowing out to sustain you……and you learned how to
receive and to sustain it in return. How might your life be different?”
Judith Dueerk, A Circle of Stones
1989
Our lives
are so busy, and finding the time to maintain the sacredness of life can become
a challenge. But what if every activity were sacred? What if each simple act
became a prayer? What if cooking and cleaning and crafting were once again
enjoyable and sacred activities instead of boring chores?
What if you could live your every day life as though the Goddess was
standing by your side? She is! Let’s
discover Her again!
Most
of us were raised with only male deities to inspire us. They went out and
conquered and fought battles and killed and did what men have always done. But
what of the Feminine Goddesses….what
were their jobs? Yes, some of them did battle with men and monsters. Many of the
Goddesses ruled their cities and countries peacefully and wisely. They had
children, they did their chores, albeit larger ones than we have today….they
caused the sun to rise, the earth to blossom, rains to fall, and the moon to
govern our inner tides.
There
are so many household activities that “have to” be done each day…..meals
must be prepared and the house must be cleaned. We women do the majority of the
chores, no matter how equal or evolved the marriage or relationship. Does it not
make sense to make these chores a blessing to you, your family and your
environment, rather than a curse? To work with the love and awareness of the
Goddess and Her myriad gifts? To cook with gratitude and love, with fresh
produce, rather than grab a fast food meal in your car? To decorate your table
with flowers and shells and favorite objects? To create with your own hands
beautiful gifts from natural fibers and objects?
Changing
your outlook can change your life! Join me on this journey of Goddess Home Blessings.
Goddess
Grace:
the art of bringing the Goddess into your life and home.
Long-forgotten
crafts are making a comeback in our society. Life skills are the art and science
of creating a bountiful and beautiful life, with style, grace and frugality. The
simplicity of hand work brings a meditative quality to your life. Books have
been written about “Knitting and meditation” and “crafts and
contemplation”. Let us discover firsthand how soothing these activities can
truly be. Quiet time or busy time, time with the Goddess really does restore the
soul. Make your day a prayer and a blessing. Your every movement can be a
restorative grace. The Goddess is found is the ordinary, the mundane, the simple
as well as the extraordinary. Make your life a blessing every moment.
I
will be delighted to come to your home and spend an afternoon or evening with
you. Together, we will explore The Goddess and Her Gifts. We will begin our time
together with a meditation with the Goddess of your choosing, then on to our
chosen activity. We will conclude our sacred afternoon together with Goddess
peace and blessing.

Creating
Sacred Space:
The
Goddess Kwan Yin will be our Guide and Companion
Kwan
Yin is the Goddess of hearth and home, mercy, compassion and peace. A
beautiful home is a sweet sight in Kwan Yin’s eyes. Your living space needs to
be clean, well organized and serene to maintain a Sacred Space and peace of
mind. Learn how to clean quickly and well. Discover ways to always have a neat,
tidy home even if you have absolutely no time to clean. Learn how to organize
your kitchen, bathroom, living space to maximize the flow of energy. End clutter
once and for all with quick and easy Feng Shui techniques. Design and decorate
your personal shrine or altar. Kwan Yin blesses your home with love and
gratitude, no matter what size your home is, what neighborhood you reside in, no
matter how much or little financial abundance you possess. Love and joy are the
inspiration! Finally, have the time
to follow your heart, in an environment that encourages your spirituality and
creativity.
Kwan
Yin also loves a beautifully designed outdoor shrine. Got Dirt? Let’s Plant! A
filed trip to a local nursery is in order here!
For
our Kwan Yin adventure: you will need basic cleaning supplies: bucket, cleaning
cloths, determination, and willingness to release and let go, and release and
renew! Favorite artifacts and treasures for your shrine. Fresh or silk flowers.
Essential oils of pine and lemon. Art supplies.
Old-tyme Domestic Skills
: The
Goddess Brigit will be our Guide and Companion
Brigit
is the Celtic Goddess of spinning, weaving, and beautiful fiber arts. Brigit
encourages us to bring beauty into our lives and homes. Everyday crafts and
activities can be a “muse” experience!
Discover how to fill your sewing basket to cope with sewing emergencies.
Learn how to iron a shirt like a pro. Ironed linens will impress your family and
friends. We can create scented linen sprays, with Brigit blessings. Brigit
encourages our needlecraft skills, such as sewing on buttons and repairing rips
in seams. Or, you may choose to
learn to knit, crochet, cross stitch or do simple embroidery stitches. Learn to
read a pattern, and then discover the freedom of Goddess inspired creativity
without patterns. Flower arranging, music, painting and decorating your personal
shine will be explored. Create and surround yourself in Goddess beauty.
For
our Brigit adventure, you will need an iron and ironing board, and a selection
or either sewing or craft supplies, depending on what you wish to enjoy. A field
trip to one of my favorite craft stores may be included.
The
Art of Baking
: The Goddess
Hestia will be our guide and Companion.
Have
you always wanted to learn to bake, but didn’t have a Mother or Grandmother to
show you the way? Let’s spend an afternoon together exploring the art of
baking. Hestia, the oldest and most revered of Greek Goddesses, is the
“Goddess of the home”, and the most active part of homes is often the
kitchen. Let’s make a little kitchen magic!
Choose bread, or cookies, or quick breads and muffins. Bake by the moon,
or by the season. Let the Goddess Hestia select Her favorite for you. Bread, the
staff of life, sacred food of the Goddess. One
bread recipe with a thousand variations. Make a different loaf of bread every
day! Bread made by your loving and capable hands tastes better than anything you
have ever eaten. Cookies are always yummy, and are so much tastier freshly made,
steaming hot from the oven. Learn one simple recipe from scratch, and then let
your imagination soar. Brownies, quick breads, muffins and pancakes are easier
to make than you ever dreamed. My Mother-in-law Lucille’s delicious coffee
cake recipe is included here. Wonderful!!! Would
you like my Grandmother’s secret family recipe for homemade noodles? Hestia
and I will show you how!!
For
Hestia and Her baking time, you will need basic baking supplies of flour, eggs,
sugar, yeast, salt, baking powder, baking soda, butter, cinnamon and spices,
chocolate, mixer, and bowls. I will be happy to bring my muffin tins, cookie
sheets, and rolling pin and bread pans, if necessary, to complete our
experience.
Select
the offering your heart calls for. Your investment of $50 includes an afternoon
(or evening) with me, a materials list, guided meditation and prayer time. I
will not set a rigid time frame, because so much of crafting
time is free flowing. We will conclude when our project for the afternoon
is done. When you are comfortable with your stitching, when the bread is
finished, when your shrine is the way you want it, then our time is complete.
Not before.
I
have had many years experience creating Hearth Magic. Some of my happiest
memories are of baking and crafting with my children. The Goddess lives in
children and yarn, and flour, and gooey, sticky baby smiles. I spin wool, knit,
crochet, quilt, bake and embroider. I love to work in the garden, working with
Gaia to create Her bountiful beauty. Collage is also favorite pastime, and
painting anything will make me happy. Creativity flows naturally and abundantly
when we are in harmony with the Goddess.
If
you would like to learn something not specifically on the list…..please ask!
Together, we can make it happen!
Please
contact me for additional information. I am always delighted to share time with
you.
If
you and your friends would like to begin a Goddess Crafting group, where we
gather to knit or quilt or crochet and share the Gifts of the Goddess, I would
be honored to facilitate for a modest fee.
